Bamboo Flooring

Bamboo has recently become very popular for flooring. It is aesthetically appealing, can be made to look like hardwood, has quite hardwearing properties, and is fairly straightforward to install. But its greatest benefit is its low environmental impact, being quick to grow in areas not needed for other purposes. It is understandable why many people are choosing bamboo flooring.

Taurus Flooring offers bamboo in dark and stranded shades, a look  achieved through our carbonisation method. Further products are enhanced by various vertical and horizontal   plank construction methods. This refers to the manner in which bamboo strips are fused together. In the horizontal style the strips are laid flat so the top surface shows the bamboo’s natural growth rings, or "knuckles". In the vertical style, the strips are turned on their sides and laminated together in long, slender rows, creating a substantially different appearance. As bamboo is a grass rather than a tree, its finished appearance is very distinctive, though it can be processed to look like more traditional wooden flooring.

Durability is a key strength in using Bamboo as flooring.  When allowed to properly grow for 6 – 7 years it actually stronger than many hardwoods. It is also very resilient, with very little risk of product gapping, cupping, or warping. Other outstanding properties of bamboo include its moisture resistance, allowing Bamboo flooring to be used in Kitchens or Bathrooms; it is stable and reliable provided any water exposure is not excessive.

In an age of ever-growing concern over depletion of natural resources, especially of hardwood forests, the trend toward bamboo flooring could not be timelier. Bamboo is extremely fast growing additionally, since it is a grass. Where Hardwood takes several decades to fully develop, and is home to many forms of wildlife, Bamboo can achieve comparable qualities in only 6-7 years, with far less environmental impact.
